This Classic Apple Crisp recipe has been in our family for generations. It is a wonderful, old fashioned apple recipe full of apple and cinnamon flavor.
This is one of the first recipes I learned to make when I was first married over 30 years ago. I started with easy recipes so this was a great one for learning. Just slice the apples and mix the topping and put it in the oven.

Why I Love This Recipe
Easy to make with simple and readily available ingredients.
A traditional fall recipe
The whole house smells wonderful while it bakes for an hour
The Apples
There are plenty of choices of what kind of apple to use for making your apple crisp. You can even use more than one kind if you like! I use Granny Smith, Gala (our all time favorite) or McIntosh. Those are what we find in our area and usually a price I want to pay. We also love Honeycrisp for eating but they are usually expensive.

Can This Be Frozen
It is not recommended to freeze Classic Apple Crisp.
How to Store it
It doesn’t absolutely have to be refrigerated if it is just going to be out for overnight or a short amount of time. If it will last a few days, it would be best to refrigerate it. Refrigerating always lengthens how long it will last. It is best eaten within 3-4 days.
Always keep it covered.
How to Serve
Classic Apple Crisp is fantastic with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. I don’t personally need anything on mine. Just plain apple crisp is perfect for me.
Hot out of the oven it is amazing.
Room temperature after cooling on the counter it is amazing.
Cold out of the refrigerator it is amazing.
Can you tell I just love this classic apple crisp? I will happily eat it any of the ways listed! It is just your preference as far as temperature.

How to Make Classic Apple Crisp
Spray 9×13 baking dish.
Peel and slice apples and put in baking dish. The dish will be heaping full but the level will go way down as it cooks.
Sprinkle with about 1 tsp of cinnamon.
Mix butter and sugar. A pastry cutter works very well.
Add flour and ½ Tbsp of cinnamon and mix well again.
Spread over apples.
The dish will be heaping full but that is good because it will reduce a lot as it cooks.
Bake at 350* for about an hour or until apples are tender. Test with a fork until it pokes in easily.
Serve as is or with Cool Whip or vanilla ice cream.
