Where did the Easy Pumpkin Dessert recipe come from?

I originally got this recipe from Taste of Home. They call it Great Pumpkin Dessert. It calls for a small can of regular pumpkin, a lot of sugar and pumpkin pie spice but once when I made it, I realized I only had a large can of pumpkin pie mix. I had to make do with what I had and we decided we liked the make-do version even better! It was more pumpkin-y and less sweet. The other was a bit overly sweet. This was just right! I have been making it my way ever since and that is the recipe below.

Could I use other nuts?

We have always used walnuts but pecans would be just as good if that is your preference. They would be very similar. Any nut would work, of course, but something like a peanut would change the taste since it has a stronger flavor and almonds would be a bit crunchier. I can’t think of any that would not work though. If you try something else, let me know!

What if I don’t have pumpkin pie spice?

Homemade pumpkin pie spice is very easy to make with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves if you don’t have any premade spice on hand. It is also cheaper and has no fillers added. (Click on the linked words for the full recipe.)
