The Carbs in Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix
I don’t think I have to convince you that it is healthier to make your own mixes with basic ingredients but if you are watching your carbs, there is another reason–a big one.
Compare this nutrition label of Hidden Valley Ranch packet at 16 carbs per pack with this homemade at 4 carbs per “pack”. That is QUITE a difference!
No, we don’t eat the whole pack but every savings that big counts!

Homemade Italian Dressing Dry Mix
Ingredients for Dry Mix
(Full printable ingredients and instructions are just below.)
dried minced onions
parsley flakes
black pepper
tsp salt
Mix all dry ingredients together well and store at room temperature in an air tight jar.
To make Dressing:
Mix 2 Tablespoons of dry mix with 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup buttermilk or sour cream. If mixture is thicker than you like, add water a few drops at a time to thin it some.
To make Dip:
Mix 2 Tablespoons of dry mix with 2 cups of sour cream. Refrigerate for a few hours or overnight to blend flavors well.
To use in a recipe that calls for a packet of ranch dressing:
Use 2 Tablespoons of dry mix as you would a packet

- 2 Tablespoons dried minced onions
- 2 Tablespoons parsley flakes
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon dill weed
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- Mix all dry ingredients together well and store at room temperature in an air tight jar.
- To make Dressing: Mix 2 Tbsp of dry mix with 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup buttermilk or sour cream. If mixture is thicker than you like, add water a few drops at a time to thin it some.
