Here are Over 500 Chicken Names so whether you want an old fashioned name, a food or flower name, a famous name or a theme for types of chickens, this is the place to find just what you need!
Sometimes it is difficult to come up with just the right name. This post should help; whether you want an old fashioned name, a food or flower name, a famous name or a theme for types of chickens, this is the place to find just what you need! I have come up with over 500 chicken names to share with you!
Some folks name their chickens. Some don’t. I am one that does. How else am I to tell them apart?
For example, I know that Polly Peep is the Silver Laced Wyandotte that always goes broody. If I did not have them named to know who it was each time, I would just know that one of them was broody and it may be the same one as the last time or maybe it wasn’t. I know it is Polly each time.
Plus, when I talk to them, I can call them by name. 🙂 Everyone in my chicken coop has a name.
My chickens are named by breed:
Silver Laced Wyandottes are Polly Peep, Lottie Layer, Clara Cluck and Sally Scratch.
Tetra Tints are Ivy, Daisy and Jasmine.
Red Sex Links are Nutmeg, Ginger, Thyme, Sage and Rosemary.
Easter Eggers are Ariel, Alice, Maid Marian, Giselle, Tiana, Elsa, Belle and Nala.
Welsummers are Trudy, Sharona and Natalie.
And my one Buff Orpington is Honey.
If you find just the perfect name or idea here, let me know in the comments! I would love to hear from you! 🙂
Also–new idea!–if you would like to email a picture of your chickens with their names to include in the post, I would love to include them! Wouldn’t it be fun to see each other’s chickens and names? If you would like to be included, email them to me at lovinghomeschoolemail@gmail.com and I will put them at the end of the post. 🙂

Hi Brittany! I’m so glad you found the perfect name for your chick and I’m so glad you shared it with me! How fun! 🙂 I really enjoyed hearing the names of your babies. If you would like to email a picture of your babies to me at myproductivebackyard@gmail.com, I would add it and your comment with their names to the post and invite others to do the same. I just thought it would be fun for readers to see others’ chicks and names. If you would rather not, that is totally fine of course. It was just an idea. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by with your comment! 🙂
