Simple Make Ahead Broccoli Casserole; An easy 8 ingredient, make ahead dish the whole family loves!
This Simple Make Ahead Broccoli Casserole recipe was passed to me from my Mom. She made it many years with every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinner and other special occasions. Now, sometimes our family holidays are at her house and she makes it and sometimes it is at mine and I make it. This is part of it every time.
I am pretty sure there isn’t anyone in the family who does not like this recipe! And it is full of broccoli! It has been a family favorite for decades!
Simple Make Ahead Broccoli Casserole is easy and delicious and the best part is that it can be made the day before and just cooked when you need it. It goes wonderfully with a turkey or ham dinner.
We always want leftovers so I usually make 2 pans. The recipe will be for 1 since that will usually be the desired amount. The pictures below are showing a double recipe because I rarely make a single for this one. We love it that much! 😊

Another broccoli casserole recipe we love that is actually a meal instead of a side dish like this one is Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Rice. Some of our other favorite side dishes are Candied Sweet Potatoes and Special Mashed Potatoes. More are coming but I have started with our favorites so be sure to check those out!
The Broccoli:
The original recipe doesn’t call for florets but just broccoli but when you buy frozen broccoli in the “regular old” box or bag, you often get a lot of stem and stalk pieces. When I wrote the recipe for the blog and when I make the recipe, I always use florets. They do cost just a little more but they are just so much nicer.
An onion shortcut:
For onions in a recipe like this, I keep frozen, cut onions in my freezer and just pop out the needed amount. It is so quick and easy. 😊
How to Make Simple Make Ahead Broccoli Casserole Ahead of Time:
Make your casserole a day ahead and keep the pan ready to go and in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake it. Cover with a lid, plastic wrap or foil. Do all but the final baking so that all you need to do on serving day is the final 30 minutes in the oven. Do let it sit out for about 15 minutes before putting it in the oven. This is such a perfect addition to a big meal!
Ingredients:
(Full printable ingredients and instructions are just below.)
