When is Earth Day?

Earth Day is always on April 22nd. The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970.

Why I Love This Recipe

Easy to make with simple ingredients.

It’s fun to eat!

It is ready quickly. Mix it up, a few minutes in the refrigerator and ready!

It’s cute! 😊

Can it Be Made Ahead of Time?

Yes, Definitely! Make it up to a couple of days ahead of time. The cookies could get soft after a day so you may want to add them the same day you will eat them. You could have them crumbled and ready to sprinkle on top if you need to do the pudding ahead.

Just cover with plastic wrap if you will be making it the day before.

Gummy worms do get chewier and hard if they are not covered and if they are too cold.

Really, the whole recipe takes minutes to make so I don’t know why it would need to be made too far ahead but those are the tips I have if needed.

What cups to use

To best be with the Earth Day theme, use washable cups if possible.

If you are taking them to school or outside, glass won’t be appropriate. This is a great opportunity to encourage recycling. Use plastic recyclable cups and make sure they get recycled when they are empty.

chocolate pudding

crushed Oreo cookies

Instructions

Pour pudding mix into bowl. Add 3 cups of milk and stir well with whisk. Most call for 3 cups of milk for the family size box. If it is different, prepare according to instructions on box.

mixing milk with chocolate pudding mix

Add pudding evenly to cups you wish to use. The recipe makes about six half cup (plus a little bit) servings of pudding. The size of your cups will depend on how many servings you get exactly. Leave enough room from the top of the cup to add the crushed cookies and worms.

Add worms as desired. I laid some worms on top of the pudding before adding the crushed cookies. That way, they are coming out of the dirt. Do this with all of the worms if you like.

Add the rest of the worms on top of the crushed cookies. It is cute to have some worms coming out of the dirt and some on top. You could also have them all coming out of the dirt or all on top; however you like.
