When my children were little, they LOVED matching games. ANY matching games!

Having a game with the theme of the holiday or subject they are studying makes it even more fun!

Why it is Good for Children to Play Memory Games

Builds thinking skills

Improves concentration

Provides brain exercise (good for all of us!)

Develops vocabulary-talk about the pictures as you play, especially if there are some that they don’t recognize.

Provides practice in planning ahead

If you need the memory games rules;

Lay out the cards, face-down on a table or floor. They can be in neat rows or all around; however you like.

Decide who will go first. Usually, it is the youngest player.

The first player turns over one card then another, trying to make a match.

If no match is made, turn both cards back over and it is the next person’s turn.

If a match is made, the player gets to go again until his/her two card flips do not match.

Go from player to player until all the matches are found.

Tips for different ages

Adjust the number of pairs to the ages of children playing. If you are playing with very young children, you may only want to play with a few or a dozen matches to make it easier to learn the game.

As they have practice playing and for older children, use more pairs of matches.

You could print out other sets of Memory Matching Games I have available to make it even more challenging for older kids!
