This Shoo Fly Cake has all of the Shoo Fly Pie molasses and brown sugar flavors in a moist, easy to make cake! Just 7 ingredients!

This Shoo Fly Cake recipe was passed down to me from my husband’s grandmother. She is from PA Dutch country so had quite a few of those delicious homey recipes.

If you love brown sugar or molasses, you will love Shoo Fly Cake! It has both of those ingredients!

Shoo Fly Pies come in wet bottom and dry bottom. This cake is the same moist consistency all the way through.

This recipe makes a nice, full 9×13 pan full of cake.

It is easy to make.

How to Store Shoo Fly Cake

Store covered at room temperature for several days. It can also be stored in the refrigerator if room temperature is very warm.

Boiling water

Molasses

Baking soda

All purpose flour

Brown sugar; always pack brown sugar unless it is noted not to do so. Light or Dark is fine in this recipe.

Vegetable oil

Salt

How to Make Shoo Fly Cake

Shoo Fly Cake 1-4 process shots

1-Mix water, molasses and baking soda.

Set aside.

2-In a separate bowl, add flour, sugar, oil and salt.

3-Mix together.

4-Measure out 1 cup of crumb mixture and set aside for the top.

Shoo Fly Cake 5-8 process shots

5-Combine the liquid and crumb mixture.

6-It will be very runny.

7-Put in a greased 9×13 or 3 round cake pans.

8-Sprinkle the 1 cup of crumb mixture on top.

Bake in a preheated 350* oven for about 45 minutes.

Instructions

Mix water, molasses and baking soda.

Set aside.

In a separate bowl, add flour, sugar, oil and salt.

Mix together.

Measure out 1 cup of crumb mixture and set aside for the top.

Combine the liquid and crumb mixture.

It will be very runny.
