The kids will have great fun mixing up this simple but delicious trail mix with fun animal themes for a day at the zoo! They will have even more fun eating it!
A day at the zoo is so much fun and having lions, tigers, kangaroos, monkeys, elephants, bears, rabbits and other animals in your snack bag makes it even more so! This Zoo Trail Mix is sure to be a highlight of your day!
Serve it to keep the hunger pangs at bay as you wait for lunch, in the car on the way if you have a long drive or even as a guessing game to see if they can figure out where the next field trip will be!
This trail mix is perfect to go along with a Zoo Scavenger Hunt. Our family loves the zoo and we also love an Aquarium so I also made an Aquarium Scavenger Hunt and Aquarium Trail Mix. We usually have either a zoo or aquarium membership; whichever we live closer to at the moment (since we move a lot).
And we go to the pet store about once a week so I also made a Pet Store Scavenger Hunt to make that visit even more fun! We have always loved looking at animals—any animals!
One of the best things about this recipe is that the kids can totally make it by themselves! It requires no cooking. The little bit of pouring (and it is non messing pouring!), measuring and mixing is all child friendly! This is a super-fast and easy recipe to have ready last minute if needed. It doesn’t even need chilling like some recipes do. You can’t get any easier than this!

Other Fun Trail Mixes:
Other Zoo Posts
The Animal Crackers:
I used regular animal crackers but if you would rather the chocolate or iced version, use whatever you would like!
The Pretzels:
Again, the exact kind is your preference. A small shape is best, as it fits together with the other ingredients. I use the mini twists. The small pretzel sticks would also work.
The Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies:
You could also use Goldfish, Whales or a mix of 2 or 3 kinds; whatever you like best or have on hand.
The Cereal:
I used Kix because I had it on hand and we like it. Use what your family likes. Cheerios or any Chex type would also be good. Preferably a low dust type that isn’t messy.
The Teddy Grahams:
Again, use what your family likes. Teddy Grahams also come in cinnamon and chocolate chip flavors if you prefer.
Other Mix-in’s:
There are plenty of other things that could be added too! That is what is so great about this mix. You don’t want too much “sweet” or too much “salty” but it is totally to your liking. If you have other sweet or salty mix-in’s you would like, throw them in too! Experiment and let me know what else you like!
