Cheesy Crabmeat Appetizers

Cheesy Crabmeat Appetizers

Cheesy Crabmeat Appetizers are a real crowd pleaser with make ahead ease for the hostess! Only 6 ingredients and ready in 30 minutes!

Cheesy Crabmeat Appetizers can be made ahead to put in the oven when needed; a real bonus for getting ready to feed a crowd. I like to bake half and then put the other half in the refrigerator for later or the freezer for when we would like a treat.

These are great for Super Bowl, graduation parties, bridal showers or any family or friend gathering.

My sons need absolutely no excuse to eat these; wanting a meal or snack is good enough.

When I was young and even well into my adulthood, my entire family on my Dad’s side would gather at the family farm on Christmas Eve. My Aunt Donna always had these ready to eat while we waited for Uncle Bill to get in from the milking barn.

When I eat these, I am taken back to her farmhouse kitchen with my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, parents and siblings–and later adding my husband and sons; sweet memories!

The English Muffins:

I always buy the Thomas’s brand for these. They are just better. They break open neater and cook up nicer. Of course, any brand will work but I personally like them better. They can also be frozen until you are ready to make the filling with them.

The “Pasteurized process cheese sauce”:

Your jar also may be labeled “cheese dip” and it may be a 15 oz or 16 oz jar. Either is fine. An ounce here or there isn’t going to matter and some stores may just have slightly different varieties. It’s fine. Here is a picture of what you are looking for.

Can Cheesy Crabmeat Appetizers be made Ahead of Time?

Yes! The best way is to keep the filling separate from the English muffins. It doesn’t take long to put those two parts together and it is much neater to store. Refrigerate up to 5 days or freeze up to 3 months. Freeze in an airtight container.

Can they be frozen?

Yes! To freeze the Cheesy Crabmeat Appetizers after they are assembled and cooked, freeze them whole on a tray or silpat. Cut them into quarters before putting them into a Ziploc bag. When they are like this, you can pull out as many as you need.

To reheat; remove the pieces from the Ziploc bag and thaw completely on a baking tray. Follow normal cooking directions. Check after about 10 minutes because they may need less time the second time.

This recipe makes 24 English muffin halves or 96 quarters, so quite a bit. I love to make some when I need them and freeze some for later to pull out to make an easy treat.
