Holiday celebrations include decorations, games, music and of course food and the more fun the food is, the better! This St. Patrick’s Day Magical Trail Mix is definitely fun! With Lucky Charms cereal, pretzels, M&M’s and pistachios (optional if you have a nut allergy), it has both the sweet and salty flavors too.

One of the best things about this recipe is that the kids can totally make it by themselves! It requires no cooking. The little bit of pouring (and it is non messing pouring!), measuring and mixing is all child friendly!

This recipe has been shared in Weekend Potluck. Head on over to these great sites for LOTS of new recipes each week!

Other Holiday Trail Mixes:

The Nuts:

I used pistachios because I wanted to use green nuts even though they weren’t super green, but if you like a different kind, go for it! This is your trail mix so use what you like or have on hand.

If you have a nut allergy, you can also omit the nuts if needed. They are great in there but not totally necessary. Pumpkin seeds would also be a good addition if you want a healthy crunch added without nuts.

The Cereal:

I used generic Lucky Charms because they were half the price so again; use what you like.

The M&M’s:

If you are planning ahead, you can buy just green M&M’s from Amazon here. (Well, I couldn’t get the Amazon link for the M&M’s brand to work but they do have them. Here are a few other options you may like. Amazon does have them and they will be in the “Customers who viewed this item also viewed” area if you want it. I’m sorry I couldn’t make it easy.)

If you don’t plan ahead like me when I made them this time, you can buy a 38 oz. size bag and pick out the green ones. 😊 The bag I got this time had exactly 1 cup of green M&M’s but it did not have a whole cup of all of the colors so I may have just been lucky. Maybe it was the season to be lucky with green!

You really could add some yellows or even blues if you don’t have enough greens to make a cup if needed. Or if there isn’t a whole cup, that is really OK too. The portions don’t have to be exact.

The Pretzels:

Again, the exact kind is your preference. A small shape is best, as it fits together with the other ingredients. I use the mini twists. The small pretzel sticks would also work.
