Valentine’s Day Bark is a quick and easy to make dessert with sweet and salty flavors in pretty red, pink and white Valentine colors; ready in a little over an hour

Valentine’s Day Bark is so quick and easy to make! Bark is one of my favorite desserts to make because it is so simple. You just melt some chocolate, spread it out, sprinkle on some goodies, let them cool and break them into bite sized pieces. Wa-la; bark! And the kids can do much of the process! They love to be involved in the making.

The M&M’s

Usually when I make bark, I just buy a big bag of M&M’s and pick out what colors I want. It worked out fine until this time when I found only about a quarter cup of red ones. ☹ BUT! My son found on Amazon a great 62oz container of reds and greens and knowing that I would want to make St. Patrick Day treats and more Valentine’s treats so would need more reds, I ordered one. It was perfect! If you like that idea, I linked it below. They also have just Valentine’s Day colors—reds, pinks and whites. They would be very pretty for this too.

The Sprinkles:

Use whatever sprinkles you find and like. I found some at Walmart. Amazon also had a bunch of options if that is easier.

The Bark:

When melting the bark, don’t go by looking at it whether it is melted or not. It will usually keep its block shape until you start stirring so it can be deceiving. It may be very hot and pretty much melted but still look like blocks. Stir after 60 seconds and then after 30 seconds and then after 15 seconds and then just stir and stir and it will probably be enough.

You don’t want it too hot. If you put colorful M&M’s on chocolate that is too hot, your colors will run.

Also, when sprinkling your other ingredients onto the bark, it is good to do the bigger things first and smaller things like sprinkles last so they will fill in the gaps. Gently press the pieces down into the bark so they are in it well. If they are not, they will fall out and you will have more like a trail mix; still good but not what we are going for here.

Can Valentine’s Day Bark be made ahead?

Yes! Bark is the perfect make ahead dessert! It will wait patiently in the refrigerator or even freezer. Just store it in an air tight container and keep refrigerated up to a week or frozen up to 3 months for best taste. It will last longer but may not taste its best if left longer.

Ingredients:

Valentine’s Day sprinkles

Directions:

Melt bark in microwave for 60 seconds.

Stir

Melt another 30 seconds.

Stir, stir, stir!

The bark should be smooth after much stirring. If it isn’t, microwave another 15 seconds or so but don’t cook it too much. It can burn. With a lot of stirring, it should be smooth.

Alternately, you can melt it over a double boiler on the stove top.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Next, pour melted bark onto baking sheet.

Sprinkle pretzels and M&M’s over bark and press gently into bark so the pieces will stay.

Last, sprinkle the sprinkles into the remaining gaps of empty bark space.

Chill in refrigerator about an hour or until set.

Break into bite sized pieces.

Valentine’s Day Bark

Store in an airtight container in a cool place.

It can also be frozen.

Valentine’s Day Bark; A quick and easy to make dessert with sweet and salty flavors in pretty red, pink and white Valentine colors; ready in a little over an hour

  • 24 oz. vanilla almond bark
  • 1 cup broken pretzels
  • 1 cup red M&M’s
  • 2 Tbsp Valentine’s Day sprinkles

Instructions

Melt bark in microwave for 60 seconds.

Stir

Melt another 30 seconds.
