A Zoo Scavenger Hunt is a fun way to look for specific animals! Kids old and young will have fun checking off with pictures and words. 2 versions!
Zoos are always enjoyable places to be but what about having specific things to look for while you are there!? That is even more fun! These Zoo Scavenger Hunt are super entertaining!
We have two versions of our scavenger hunts! One is just animals. The other is what the animals are doing like eating, sleeping, climbing, etc. and what they look like.
If you are lucky enough to go to the zoo often, you will have more than one hunt to do!
The links for the free printables is just below. Just click on the link and it will pop right up in another window for you to print.
The printables includes both pictures and words for both readers and non readers. Children of all ages will be able to do these zoo scavenger hunts!
These hunts can also be done by one child or a whole family. Just print off one for each person.
It is understood that every zoo may not have every animal listed. That is fine! If they don’t have a live animal, look for a picture of one. They will usually have that.
I did try to choose animals that most zoos would have so there would be as much success as possible. 😊
There are two Zoo Scavenger Hunts. The first is of specific animals. There is a picture of the animal and the name in each block. The second hunt is for general types of animals like an animal with stripes. There is a picture in the block for that also but just as an example. Find any animal that has stripes. It doesn’t have to be the one pictured.

The Rules for the Zoo Scavenger Hunt:
No running. We wouldn’t run in any public place anyway of course.
No loud voices. We sure don’t want to scare the animals (or the other people!). This is a nice, quiet, slow game.
Just find the items with your eyes. Point them out and check them off. Or take a picture if you would like.
This is a good hunt to do cooperatively so it is not race through the zoo. It is just as fun to work together to cross off your list.
You will probably not want to use the same item for any two on the list but if you need or want to that is okay. It will totally depend on how your hunt is going. It is totally up to you!
Whatever you want to do is fine! This is your game to do however works for your hunt! The ages of the children and the time you want to spend on the hunt will have to do with how you make your rules.
For example; you may find a tiger who is eating. He could count as 3 things because he has stripes, a long tail and is eating. He may very well even yawn during his meal! It is up to you whether you count that as 1 or 4 items. It probably will have to do whether it is 9am or 4pm when that sighting happens. 😊
