The Rules for the Fall Nature Scavenger Hunt:

You will probably not want to use the same item for any two on the list but if you need or want to that is okay. It will totally depend on how your hunt is going. It is totally up to you!

Whatever you want to do is fine! This is your game to do however works for your hunt! The ages of the children and the time you want to spend on the hunt will have to do with how you make your rules.

For example; the fly on the picture of the leaf below—I could count it as something that crawls because that is what it was doing at the moment that I saw it. But it also flies so I could count it as that. It was also on a green leaf and a big leaf. If it is the end of the day and you are ready to go, count it as all 4 things! 😊 If it is the beginning and you want to make it longer, make the rule that something together like that can only have one thing checked off. Your hunt—your rules! 😊

Where to go for your hunt

It is good to go somewhere with some wooded area and underbrush if possible. A manicured lawn is not going to give you most of the items on the list. A park or even small area of woods is perfect. It doesn’t have to be a large forest or anything. Look over the list ahead of time and if you see things you know you won’t find, just cross them off or say that you need to find 15 things out of the 20. I tried to make the list with things that most places in the US in the fall would be able to find most things.

I found 19. 🙂 I didn’t find any pinecones when I went out today. I didn’t get a good picture of the flying, crawling and things with 4 legs while I was outside today but I did see them and check them off. 🙂 It was fun to be out in the fresh air!
