Valentine’s Day Trail Mix

Valentine’s Day Trail Mix in red heart bowl

The kids will have great fun mixing up this simple but delicious trail mix with the pretty colors of Valentine’s Day! They will have even more fun eating it!

Holiday celebrations include decorations, games, music and of course food and the more fun the food is, the better! This Valentine’s Day Trail Mix is definitely fun! With pretzels, M&M’s, marshmallows and peanuts (optional if you have a nut allergy; try sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds instead), it has both the sweet and salty flavors too.

One of the best things about this recipe is that the kids can totally make it by themselves! It requires no cooking. The little bit of pouring (and it is non messing pouring!), measuring and mixing is all child friendly! This is a super-fast and easy recipe to have ready last minute if needed. It doesn’t even need chilling like some recipes do. You can’t get any easier than this!

Other Fun Trail Mixes:

The Nuts:

I used peanuts but if you like a different kind, go for it! This is your trail mix so use what you like or have on hand. Some in my family would have preferred more nuts in the mix so feel free to add more if you like too.

If you have a nut allergy, you can also omit the nuts if needed. They are great in there but not totally necessary. Pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds would also be a good addition if you want a healthy crunch added without nuts.

The Pretzels:

Again, the exact kind is your preference. A small shape is best, as it fits together with the other ingredients. I use the mini twists. The small pretzel sticks would also work.

The M&M’s:

Usually when I make trail mix, I just buy a big bag of M&M’s and pick out what colors I want. It worked out fine until this time when I found only about a quarter cup of red ones. ☹ BUT! My son found on Amazon a great 62oz container of reds and greens and knowing that I would want to make St. Patrick Day treats and more Valentine’s treats so would need more reds, I ordered one. It was perfect! If you like that idea, I linked it below. They also have just Valentine’s Day colors—reds, pinks and whites. They would be very pretty for this too.

The Cereal:

I used Very Berry Cheerios because they were pinkish but there is also a Limited Edition Blueberry Cherries “with happy heart shapes”. Since they were a limited edition, I didn’t know how long they would be out so didn’t use them for my recipe but they would be very good for the recipe too. The heart shapes would go great in here!
