Patriotic Truffles

Patriotic truffles piled on a blue plate.

These Patriotic Truffles are so delicious and have a surprise in the center! They are super easy to make with 6 ingredients and ready in a few hours.

It is fun to make festive and pretty treats for the holidays and these Patriotic Truffles will not disappoint! They are sweet and chocolatey with a surprise center!

These truffles require only 1 minute of time in the microwave to melt the baking chips and the rest is some rolling, assembling and sprinkling! If you can do that, you can make these!

Oh wait. I left out the hardest part. They need to chill for a couple of hours before you roll them into balls. That waiting is definitely the hardest part. Hurry up! When you know how good they are going to be, you will not want to wait! 😊

These are a great recipe to make with the kids. They can all help! Even the youngest can sprinkle on the sprinkles!

Oreo cookies—generic can be used but Oreos really are best. The patriotic fireworks ones that come out for July 4th will lose their sparkles when mixed with the cream cheese so don’t bother with those; ask me how I know 😊 You need 2 ½ cups of crushed cookies total

Cream cheese, softened—either full fat or 1/3 fat

White baking chips

Vegetable shortening

Peanut M&Ms—these are the surprise in the middle but won’t be a nice surprise for someone with a peanut allergy. Be sure you know your audience, so to speak and substitute with plain M&Ms if you aren’t sure. One of each red, white and blue would be a great alternate.

Stir.

The mixture should be smooth and melted after 1 minute. If not, microwave another 10 seconds and stir again. Add 10 seconds at a time until melted but watch carefully. It shouldn’t need much more than a minute and in most cases 1 minute will be enough.

Dip truffles in melted chips one at a time and move around gently with two forks until coated.
